ITINERARY
DAY 1
We will pick
you up from
our designated
pick up point
and travel
to Dublin
for our ferry
to Holyhead.
We cross the
Pennines to
Hull and board
the overnight
cruise ferry
to Rotterdam,
with ensuite
cabins. (D,
B&B)
DAY
2
We disembark
at Rotterdam’s
famous Euro
Port the largest
container
port in Europe
and then travel
across the
Netherlands.
Our first
stop today
is the city
of Eindhoven.
Although Eindhoven
is an old
city, with
town and market
rights already
awarded in
1232, little
of this long
history is
visible when
exploring
its centre
today. Large
parts of the
city were
destroyed
during air
raids in World
War II and
post-war reconstruction
was focused
on ambitious,
modernist
plans with
little respect
for the historic
heritage that
was left.
Nevertheless,
there are
140 national
heritage sites
(Rijksmonumenten)
in and directly
around the
city, including
many 19th
and early
20th century
buildings
and a handful
of older ones.
There will
be time to
explore and
have some
lunch in one
of the many
restaurants.
We then continue
our journey
to Valkenburg
where we check
into the hotel
for our 4
night stay.
(D, B&B)
DAY
3
Today is a
day of leisure
in Valkenburg.
Valkenburg
is sometimes
called Marlstone
Town because
of the lime
found in the
soil and the
soft yellow
marlstone
which has
since Roman
times been
quarried as
building material.
As a result,
there is now
a network
of over 150
miles of underground
corridors
beneath the
town. The
towns latest
attraction
are the Marlstone
Workshops
located underground
which are
well worth
a visit. While
underground
why not visit
the Grot van
Daelhem, the
last coal
mine in Holland.
There is plenty
to keep you
occupied above
ground as
well such
as the Castle
ruins, many
shops, bars,
cafes and
restaurants.
Why not take
a trip on
the South
Limburg Steam
Train and
travel at
leisure through
the rolling
countryside
surrounding
Valkenburg.
(B&B)
DAY
4
After breakfast,
we travel
to the City
of Maastricht
also known
as the Paris
of the Benelux.
A walking
tour will
show you the
prettiest
parts of the
old city centre
including
the Stokstraat
Quarter, the
Basilica of
our Lady on
the O.L Vrouweplein,
the Ramparts
and the parks
plus much
much more.
Take some
time to explore
beneath the
city where
a large part
of the Netherlands
art treasures
were safeguarded
during World
War II. You
can also view
the city from
water or sitting
in a horse-drawn
carriage.
Return to
the hotel.
(B&B)
DAY
5
Today we cross
the border
into Germany
and make our
way to the
City of Cologne.
Cologne is
the fourth
largest City
in Germany
and is famous
for its twin-spire
cathedral
and fabulous
shopping.
A guided tour
will show
you all the
sights before
spending some
time at leisure
to explore.
(B&B)
DAY
6
After breakfast,
we check out
of the hotel
and make our
way back to
Rotterdam.
Today we visit
the City of
Amsterdam
which is famous
for its canals,
museums and
historical
centres. A
guided tour
will show
you all the
sights before
spending some
time at leisure.
We make our
way to the
port at Rotterdam
for overnight
sailing to
Hull with
ensuite cabins.
(D, B&B)
DAY
7
We depart
Hull and travel
across the
Pennines and
North Wales
to Holyhead
for our afternoon
ferry back
to Dublin.
On arrival,
we will immediately
transfer you
to your original
pick up point.

ITINERARY
DAY 1
We will pick
you up from
our designated
pick up point
and travel
to Dublin
for our ferry
to Holyhead.
We depart
Holyhead and
travel to
The Isle of
Anglesey and
see Beaumaris
Castle. Beaumaris
was built
as one of
the “iron
ring”
of North Wales
Castles by
the English
monarch Edward
1, to stamp
his authority
on the Welsh.
But it was
never finished,
money and
supplies ran
out before
the fortifications
reached their
full height.
Beaumaris
is nonetheless
an awesome
sight, regarded
by many at
the finest
of all the
great Edwardian
Castles of
Wales. The
castle is
the last and
largest of
Kind Edwards
1’s
Welsh fortifications
and houses
the oldest
existing courthouse
in Britain.
We continue
to the hotel
in Llandudno
for our 4
night stay.
(D, B&B)
DAY
2
We depart
the hotel
after breakfast
and enjoy
some time
in Llandudno,
a seaside
resort which
has retained
much of its
Victorian
charm. From
the sweeping
beaches, long
crescent promenade
and elegant
pier to the
heights of
Great Orme,
there is plenty
to offer the
visitors young
and old. Take
a ride on
the tram or
cable car
up to Summit
of Great Orme,
head underground
for a tour
of the Bronze
Age Copper
Mines or simply
relax on the
golden sands.
In the afternoon
we will visit
Conwy, with
its magnificent
Edwardian
Castle and
quaint medieval
streets. (Optional
tour) There
will be a
30 minute
river cruise
on board the
Queen Victoria,
an ideal way
to see the
medieval town
of Conwy from
a different
angle. Enjoy
the informative
commentary
which highlights
points of
interest and
historical
facts. Return
to the hotel.
(D, B&B)
DAY
3
We depart
the hotel
after breakfast
and travel
to the Ffestiniog
Railway the
oldest independent
railway company
in the world
today. The
journey takes
you 13 &
a half miles
from the harbour
in Porthmadog
to the slate-quarrying
town of Blaenau
Ffestiniog.
The historic
trains climb
over 700 feet
from sea-level
into the mountains
through tranquil
pastures and
magnificent
forest, past
lakes and
waterfalls,
round horseshoe
bends (even
a complete
spiral) clinging
to the side
of the mountain
or even tunneling
through it.
In the afternoon
we visit nearby
Portmeirion.
This fascinating
village and
gardens was
built by Sir
Clough Williams-Ellis
between 1925-1976.
The architecture
is primarily
known as Italianate,
with some
buildings
designed by
the architect
and others
are rescued
follies from
other locations.
Return to
the hotel
for dinner.
(D, B&B)
DAY
4
We depart
the hotel
after breakfast
and travel
to Caernarfon
Castle which
is possibly
the most famous
Castle in
Wales. Kind
Edward intended
this castle
to be a royal
residence
and seat of
government
of North Wales.
In 1969, the
castle gained
worldwide
fame as the
setting for
the investiture
of HRH Prince
Charles as
the Prince
of Wales.
Later we travel
through spectacular
Snowdonia
to Llanberis
for a relaxing
train journey
on the Llanberis
Lake Railway.
Enjoy a 60
minute journey
along the
shores of
Lake Padarn
with splendid
views of Snowdon.
After the
vintage steam
train journey,
visit the
National Slate
Museum. On
the site of
the vast Dinorwig
quarry, the
workshops
and buildings
of the museum
are designed
as though
quarrymen
and engineers
have just
put down their
tools and
left the courtyard
for home.
Return to
the hotel.
(D, B&B)
DAY
5
After breakfast,
we will check
out of the
hotel and
travel to
Holyhead for
our ferry
back to Dublin.
After disembarkation
in Dublin,
we will immediately
transfer you
to your original
pick up point.
